Haiti and Florida Hospital: Our Connection

On January 13th, 2010, one day after the earthquake hit the island of Haiti, Florida Hospital in our response to the tremendous needs felt compelled to make a difference. Over the course of several weeks, we raised and contributed between $250,000 - $300,000 of equipment, medical supplies, in-kind donations and transportation expenses. Through the benevolent contributions of Alan Farmer, a pilot from Birmingham, Alabama, two Florida Hospital medical teams were transported from Orlando to Haiti to provide medical relief.

On April 4th 2010, Terry Owen, Senior Vice President, and designated Executive Sponsor for the Relief Project, along with Steve Yancey, Assistant to the President, traveled to the island.  After this trip it was determined that Florida Hospital’s Global Mission Initiatives would extend “Footprint” status to Haiti.

Haiti Adventist Hospital

Haiti Adventist Hopsital is a 72 bed hospital located in Diquini, Haiti just outside of Port-au-Prince. The hospital started out as a small clinic in 1968 and grew over time. The Hospital officially opened on April 26, 1981, after receiving the operating license from the Ministry of Public Health and Population.
